Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) authorities have proposed an inflated budget of Tk3,338 crore and a reduced revenue income target of Tk1,065 crore for the Fiscal Year 2017-18.
In the last fiscal year, the corporation had passed a budget of Tk3,183 crore with a revenue stream of Tk1,617 crore.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon was in the chair as the corporation’s chief executive officer, Khan Mohammad Belal, represented the budget at the city corporation office in Dhaka on Monday.
“Of the total budget, a large amount will be spent on the maintenance and development of roads, drains, footpaths, hospitals, markets, bus terminals and public toilets,” the mayor said.
“I hope the city corporation will manage to ensure its income properly and implement the proposed budget.”
The city corporation’s high officials and ward councillors, among others, also attended the budget placement programme.
Of the total budgetary allocation, Tk2,129 crore is expected to come from the government fund and foreign sources and Tk7.86 crore will be funded by other sources, said the CEO.
“Revenue earnings will source Tk1,065 crore to help implement the budget as planned. Tk610 crore of the budget has been allocated for revenue expenditure while Tk2,568 crore for development aspects and Tk69 crore for other expenditures,” CEO
Bebal said.
Within the first 11 months of the FY 2016-17, the total revenue earned was Tk433 crore, which was 27% of the estimated amount according to a recent Bangla Tribune report.
Of the 42 planned revenue sources, seven had failed to provide any revenue at all, the report added.
