DIU to introduce award in honour of Mayor Annisul Huq

Update : 05 Dec 2017, 10:23 PM
Daffodil International University (DIU) has announced plans to introduce an award in honour of the late Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq. DIU Vice-Chancellor Yusuf Mahabubul Haque said on Tuesday that the “Daffodil Change Maker Award” would recognize individuals and organizations that bring meaningful changes in society. The vice-chancellor also promised to establish the “Annisul Huq Study Center,” the university authorities said in a press briefing. “We are currently working on setting up an autonomous jury board for dispensing the award,” said Syed Mizanur Rahman, director of Students Affairs at DIU. He said the university would provide the award based on the decisions of the independent jury board, which will have no affiliation with the university. The award will recognize and appreciate people or organizations such as social entrepreneurs, innovators, students, researchers, teachers, business leaders, policy makers and activists that are creating meaningful changes with most innovative solutions every year. The award amounts to Tk100,000 and will be open to people aged under 40. Since the authorities have decided to inspire the youth to create a difference in society, posthumous fame will not be a part of the accolade. DIU said the proposed study centre would not only act as a medium to provide the honour, but also a place for multidimensional activities. The study center will generate treatises and volumes on the contribution of Annisul Huq. A photo gallery and a library will also be established. Students of the university will have the privilege to meet prominent figures through the study center, said authorities.
