Update : 08 Feb 2018, 02:26 PM
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, has occupied the Dhaka University campus to prevent "possible sabotage attempts" by Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal. Chhatra League leaders started gathering at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) since early Thursday. They have positioned themselves at key locations on the campus to stop mobilization of BNP student front Chhatra Dal over the verdict against Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. Chhatra League General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain was leading the leaders and activists of the organization at the TSC. “We have taken to the streets to safeguard the lives and properties of the people," he said. "We will work with police to tackle any attempts at creating unrest. We made this announcement days ago." Dhaka University unit General Secretary Motahar Hossain Prince echoed Jakir. “We are holding position at the TSC to preserve the peaceful environment of the campus," he said. "Our goal is to prevent any attempts of sabotage.”This article was first published on banglatribune.com
