Update : 20 Mar 2018, 08:05 PM
The government has chalked out a program to celebrate the country's historic achievement of the eligibility to graduate to a developing country from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status. As per the program, the Ministry of Information will bring out a colourful procession from Doyel Chattar around 4pm on Thursday (March 22) that will end at the western gate of Bangabandhu National Stadium. There will be decorated vehicles, horse carts, orchestra, colourful banners, festoons and placards in the procession, according to the Ministry of Information. Besides, the authorities of Dhaka University (DU) will hold a joyous rally on Smriti Chironton premises on the university campus to celebrate the country's great achievement at 11am on the same day, said a DU press release on Tuesday. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will inaugurate the rally by releasing balloons and festoons. He will chair the rally, the press release added. DU’s music department will perform patriotic songs in the function. Bangladesh has become eligible to graduate to a developing country from a least developed one as it has met all the three criteria for getting out of the LDC bloc – for the first time. The Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a United Nations panel, made an announcement on the country's eligibility at a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday.
