CAAB, airlines urged to be more vigilant about flight safety
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal has urged the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) and the private airlines to be more vigilant to address the flight safety issue. "We need to work more sincerely to flourish our aviation industry by ensuring the safety of the air journey," he said at the inaugural ceremony of an international tourism fair in Dhaka on Thursday. The minister said the government was sincerely trying to find out the reasons behind the recent US-Bangla Airlines plane crash in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the investigation report of the tragic incident would be published as soon as possible. "We have to work together in recovering the losses of our aviation sector due to the plane crash in Kathmandu," he added. The minister urged all stakeholders of the tourism sector to make a pragmatic plan in line with the economic uplift so the travel and leisure industry can seize the new opportunity, created by Bangladesh's eligibility for the developing country status. He also called for incorporating tourism in every development planning. The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism newspaper, organized the three-day international fair titled "Dhaka Travel Mart 2018" at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. US-Bangla Airlines, one of the private airlines of the country, is the title sponsor while Bangladesh Tourism Board and national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines are supporting the event as partners. A minute's silence was observed at the beginning of the ceremony to pay tribute to the victims of the Nepal plane crash. Forty-eight organizations from different countries and host Bangladesh are showcasing their products and services in five pavilions and 60 stalls at the fair. National tourism organizations, airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, online booking portals, and healthcare service providers are participating in the fair among others. On the sidelines of the fair, a seminar on "Riverine Tourism: Bangladesh Perspective" will be held tomorrow. Visitors will be able to go around the fair from 10am to 8pm every day paying an entry fee of Tk30.
