Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is attempting to make a Guinness World Record through a campaign to keep Dhaka clean and make citizens conscious about maintaining cleanliness around the city.
Mayor Md Sayeed Khokon of DSCC made the announcement in a press conference at the capital's Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday.
DSCC, in cooperation with Reckitt Benckiser Group, has taken the initiative titled "Dettol Clean Dhaka" to gather people in sweeping the city from Nagar Bhaban premises to the Zero Point on April 13.
In his speech, Sayeed Kokhon said that practicing hygiene should be introduced on a broader level to the community instead of being only a personal initiative. The campaign would help people become aware about the environment of the city, and would also ensure knowledge of proper waste management.
He urged people from all classes to participate in the campaign and make it successful.
"We welcome the Bengali New Year on April 14 by singing about washing away all dirt and trash," said Khokon. "With the same enthusiasm, we will work to keep our surroundings clean on April 13."
Chief Executive Officer of DSCC Khan Md Belal, Marketing Director of Reckitt Benckiser Group Bangladesh Tanzim Rezwan, Managing Director of GTV Aman Ashraf Fayez, and others also participated in the event.
The cleaning campaign is being powered by GTV and supported by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
