A team of counterterrorism police arrested three individuals suspected to have ties with militant organization New JMB on Thursday.
The detainees - Md Kamrul Islam Shakil alias Robot alias Tanzim, 25, Md Jamil Uddin Tusher alias Raju Hasan, 22, and Md Al Amin alias Zahid, 21 - were picked up by a team of police's Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit during a drive near Genetic Plaza on Dhanmondi Road 27, Deputy Commissioner Mohibul Islam Khan told the Dhaka Tribune.
The CTTC team also seized bomb-making material, including 100 detonators, a dagger and a mobile phone from their possession.
During primary interrogation, Tanzim admitted that he used to supply bomb-making components to New JMB, while Tushar and Zahid collected and recruited new members, Mohibul said.
He further said the suspects had been holding secret meetings with fugitive New JMB leader Ayub Bachchu in different places and plotted to carry out attacks on important establishments in the country.
