Internal dispute: Tabligh awaits home minister’s intervention

The supporters of Indian Tabligh Jamaat leader Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi and their opponents yet again engaged in a clash at Kakrail mosque on Saturday. These groups participated in chase and counter-chase at the mosque premises. As the situation escalated, police had to be deployed and the fighting parties were evicted from the mosque by the law enforcement. In previous iterations of the conflict centring the same issue, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal stepped in to resolve disputes. However, the minister is currently abroad, so these groups are waiting for him to return.

The situation is expected to come to a close after Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan returns to the country, as he mediated truce between these factions of Tabligh Jamaat on numerous occasions in the past. A number of Tabligh Jamaat leaders and police officials made the disclosure to the correspondent on Saturday. According to sources, Ramna Zone police officials held a meeting with representatives of Tabligh Jamaat on Saturday noon, and established a truce of sorts.

Deputy Commissioner (Ramna zone) Maruf Hossain Sardar said: “We convened an urgent meeting at the mosque with both parties. Two resolutions have been agreed to. “Firstly, Syed Wasif and Maulana Zubayer cannot enter the mosque till May 1. And two people from each faction have been temporarily banned from the mosque.” The scholars are- Abdullah Mansur, Dr Erteza Hasan, MahfuzHannan, and Dr Asgar. A senior Tabligh leader, who is also a follower of Syed Wasiful, told the reporter: “We tried to resolve the dispute through discussion, but they [Engineer Mahfuz Hannan and Dr Asgar] carried out an attack using madrasa students. “The home minister is currently abroad. We will hold a meeting to resolve our dispute after he returns home.” According to insiders, the Kakrail Markaz is comprised of 11 Shura members.

Among them, Maulana Mozammel Haque, Syed Wasiful Islam, Khan Sahabuddin Nasim, Maulana Mosharraf, Yunus Shikdar and Sheikh Nur Mohammad support Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi. Meanwhile, Maulana Zobaer, Maulana Rabiul Haque, Maulana Mohammad Hossain, Maulana Omar Faruk are against Kandhalvi. Maulana Mohammad Faruk is yet to take a side in this internal dispute. According to Zunayed Siddique, who is aligned with the Tabligh Jamaat, their opposition apparently occupied the mosque with the assistance of Qawmi madrasa students. DC Maruf on Saturday stated that the police evicted all the outsiders from the mosque. He assured the mosque’s everyday schedule can continue after consulting the mosque authorities. All prayers will continue, but no outsiders will be allowed to reside in the mosque. Cases have been filed by both factions against each other.This article was first published on banglatribune.com
