National Professor Nurul Islam laid to rest

People from all walks of life paid their last respects to Nurul Islam, also a Language Movement hero, at the Central Shaheed Minar

Noted litterateur and National Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam, who passed away on Wednesday night, was laid to rest in Dhaka on Friday.

He was buried at the Mirpur Intellectuals' Graveyard in the afternoon after namaz-e-janazas at Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University, said his son Mustafa Imrul Kayes.

Earlier in the morning, people from all walks of life paid their last respects to Nurul Islam, also a Language Movement hero, at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Nurul Islam passed away at his residence due to complications of old age around 9pm on Wednesday. He was 92 years old.

The academic was honoured as a National Professor of Bangladesh in 2011, and he was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1981 and the Independence Day Award in 2010.

Nurul Islam was a professor at Jahangirnagar University and Director General of Bangla Academy.
