A probe body, formed by psychology department, has found the students guilty
The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have suspended seven students of the psychology department for different periods over making derogatory remarks about a teacher on Facebook.
The proctor’s office issued a notice on Monday following the decision of a syndicate meeting.
The meeting was held on July 10 at the recommendation of the university disciplinary board.
On June 10, the disciplinary board, chaired by Vice chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, found the students guilty after scrutinizing a probe report submitted by the psychology department, according to the notice.
The department formed the body after it learned about the post, a teacher of the department told the Dhaka Tribune seeking anonymity.
The suspended students are Khairun Nesa, Minhazul Abedin, Umme Habiba Tanzila, Fatima Akter, Samia Mahzabeen, Abdullah Hil Bakee, and Aditi Sarker, all second year students.

On November 26, Khairun Nesa wrote a post on her Facebook page, expressing resentment at “someone” and the other suspended students expressed their rage in a similar manner by commenting on the post.
“I have controlled my anger after trying so hard. Otherwise, all body parts and bones of that bald headed man [Takla] would have been smashed. For the time being, I have managed to control myself a bit by tearing the question paper. I would have got more peace if I could throw the question over the person or bald head,” wrote Khairun Nesa in her Facebook page.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Khairun Nesa said she did not mention any teacher’s name or make the post addressing any specific teacher.
“I was angry as my exam was bad and wrote the post out of frustration. I am also undergoing treatment for my depression,” she said.
The Dhaka Tribune did not find mention of any teacher’s name in the post.
In another development, the psychology students have been asked not to post on Facebook regarding academic affairs, reads a notice of the department.
The department will take action if any student does not comply with the order, it added.
The department’s Chairperson Prof Nasreen Wadud was not available for comment due to illness.
