6 held over burglary at Pakistan High Commission

Gulshan police arrested the suspects from different areas of the city on Tuesday

Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the burglary at the Pakistan High Commission in Gulshan. 

Gulshan police arrested the suspects from different areas of the city on Tuesday. One computer monitor, three CPUs and two UPSs were recovered from their possession.

The arrestees were identified as Sajal alias Kalu, 22, Mostafa, 35, Dulal Mia, 34, Jahangir Alam, 35, Nimai Babu, 42 and Sekul Islam, 35.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed confirmed the matter, during a press briefing at Gulshan Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.

He said on Thursday night, unknown intruders broke into the consular section of the high commission and had stolen computer components and other electronics.

Subsequently, on Sunday the high commission had fileda case atthe Gulshan police station accusing unknown individuals. 

After getting the burglar’s face from CCTV camera footages inthe Gulshan-Banani area, he was identified as Kalu by local cleaners, he added.

Later, Kalu was arrested and from his statement the police learned that he collects plastic bottles in the area and on that night, he saw a broken window at the Pakistan High Commission building and with assistance from Mostafa and Dulal decided to plan the burglary.

Police have also arrested three other individuals who bought the electronics based on their confession.

Responding to a query, Mostak said: "We always stay alert in this area however after this incident, we have advised the high commission to fix the damage and tighten security by increasing CCTVs. 

The high commission authorities have been asked to check the recovered electronics and the contents of the computers.
