Panic stricken people rushed out of the building to save lives
A fire broke out on the fifth floor of a 16-storey building in the Bijoynagar area of Dhaka around 8:55pm on Saturday.
Fire service units rushed to the scene and put out the blaze around 9:45pm.
The on-duty officer of the fire department Ershad Hossain confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.
“A fire broke out on the 5th floor of 16-storey building. On being informed, six units from the fire department rushed to the spot and doused the blaze,” Ershad Hossain said.
Panic stricken people rushed out and gathered on the street in front of the building. Traffic at nearby areas was affected due to the incident.
It is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. It has resulted in an estimated Tk10 lakh in damage.
“We will know the reason behind the fire and damage caused after investigation,” Ershad added.
