Old Dhaka’s Churirhatta tragic fire incident left 67 people dead and scores injured within moments after the blaze engulfed buildings and streets there on February 20 night.
Immediately after the incident people started gathering at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency department and morgue to identify their dear ones whom they lost in the devastating fire.
There are 21 unidentified bodies in the morgues of different hospitals, of which, one body has been identified by a sibling and will be handed over to relatives after completing formalities.
However, among the unfortunate who lost their lives in the devastating fire, fate has made three victims more unfortunate than others. Head of Forensic Medicine department of Dhaka Medical College, Dr Sohel Mahmud, told the Dhaka Tribune that among the dead bodies, no one has so far claimed three dead bodies after the Chawkbazar fire tragedy.
“The three bodies at the DMCH morgue are of men, which no one has claimed since the incident. The bodies are recognizable as their faces are not burnt. But, till now no one has come,” said Dr Sohel Mahmud.
“If anyone comes and recognizes these dead bodies, we will hand them over to their relatives or guardians. The rest of the dead bodies will be handed over after receiving DNA results from theCID,” he added.
