Led by former BCL leaders, a new panel under the banner Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonai Bissasi Osamprodayik Sadharan Shikkharrthider Parishad was also announced
Quota reform activists, a splinter faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, and leftists have announced their respective candidates and panels for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) polls.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday, convener of the platform for the quota reform activists Hasan Al Mamun announced Nurul Haque Nur, Md Rashed Khan, and Faruk Hossain are running for the posts of vice president (VP), general secretary (GS), and assistant general secretary (AGS), respectively.
Other member of this panel are - Nazmul Huda for secretary of Liberation War and Freedom Fight affairs, Sheikh Emilee Jamal for secretary of common room and cafeteria affairs, Habibullah Belali for secretary of international affairs, Akram Hossain for secretary of literature, Nahid Islam for cultural secretary, Mamunur Rashid Mamun for sports secretary, Razibul Islam for student’s transport secretary and Aktar Hossain for secretary of social service affairs posts.
Umme Kulsum Bonya, Raiyan Abdullah, Sab Al Masani, Imran Hossain and Shariar Alam Sumya are running to be executive members.
However, the platform failed to nominate candidates for all the posts.
Those who spearheaded the quota movement will vie for 17 of the 25 available posts in the Ducsu polls.
The Progressive Students' Alliance and Anti-Imperialism Students' Unity—two allies of left-leaning bodies—named Chhatra Union General Secretary Liton Nandi as a VP candidate, Chhatra Federation DU unit President Umme Habiba Benzeer as GS, and Sadekul Islam Sadik (vice president of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Dhaka University unit) as AGS.
Other candidates for DCUSU polls are- Rajib Kanti Ray for liberation war secretary post, Ulul Amor Talukder for science and technology secretary, Suhail Ahmed Shuvo for common room and cafeteria secretary, Mim Arafat Manob for international secretary, Rahib Das for literary secretary, Fahad Hasan for cultural secretary, Shubro Nil Ray for sports secretary, Hasib Md Ashik for students' transport secretary, Faysal Mahmud for social services.
The candidates for executive members are Maynul Islam, Aminul Islam, Amzad Hosain, Afnan Akter, Mitromoy, Salman Farsi, Rahatil Rahat, Armanul Huq, Jesan Arko Marandi, Monisha Akter, Mahir Afran, Adoy Nafis and Protno Pratim Mehedi.
The student wing of BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, also announced the names of its candidates.
The announcement was made by the Chhatra Dal General Secretary Akramul Hasan at the BNP student wing's headquarters in NayaPaltan.
Md Abdus Satter Patuary, office secretary of Chhatra Dal confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune over the phone.
Md Moztafijur Rahman, Md Anisur Rahman KhandokarAnik, and Khorshed Alam Shohel will contest for the posts of Ducsu VP, GS, and AGS, respectively.

Other candidates of DUCSU polls are Jafrul Hasan Nadim for liberation war secretary post, Maksudur Rahman for science and technology secretary, Kaneta Islam for common room and cafeteria secretary, Asharaful Alam Uzzal for international secretary, Minhaz Ahmed Prince for literary secretary, Kaium Ul Islam for cultural secretary, Maniruzzaman Mamun for sports secretary, Mahfuzur Rahman Chowdhury for students' transport secretary, Tawhidul Islam for social services.
Their candidates for the executive members are – Habibul Basar, Arif Hossain, Iqbal Hossain, Sayeed Bin Anwar, Sahab Uddin, Mahmudul Hasan, Safayat Hasnat Sabit, Tanvir Azadi Sakib, Salauddin Siddiq, Shariful Islam, Imam Al Naser, Abul Basar and Alamgir Hossain.
Meanwhile, a splinter group of Bangladesh Chhatra League announced its own panel for the Ducsu polls, going against the Awami League-approved candidates.
The splinter group is running Md Sohan Khan, Aminul Islam Bulbul, and Md Roni for the posts of VP, GS, and AGS, respectively.
A day after Bangladesh Chhatra League announced their panel on Sunday, some former Chhatra League leaders formed a panel and announced their candidates.
The panel is named Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonai Bissasi Osamprodayik Shadharan Shikkharrthider Parishad (Non-communal General Students Who Believe in Bangabandhu’s Ideology and Liberation War Sprit).
VP candidate Md Sohan Khan, who is also a former vice president of central the Chhatra League, said: “This panel is not the Chhatra League’s rival.”
He nominated Amin Islam Bulbul and Md Roni as general secretary and assistant general secretary of the panel in a press briefing.
Other members of the panel are - Md Al Mamun will contest for liberation war affairs secretary post, DM Sabbir for science and technology secretary, Tamjid Hossain Tamim for international secretary, Masud Rana for literary secretary and Gazi Nabid Hossain for sports secretary. They will announce the full panel later.
