Police recovered the body around 3:30pm Tuesday
Police have recovered the body of a one-day-old infant from the footpath in front of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The body, wrapped in a towel and packed in a shopping bag, was recovered around 3:30pm Tuesday, Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Samiul Islam confirmed.
“Locals informed us [Shahbagh police] that a newborn baby was lying on the street. We went to the spot immediately and collected the baby, and took it inside the hospital for check-up,” the sub-inspector said.
“When the on-duty doctor checked the body, they pronounced it dead,” he added.
The body was sent to the DMC morgue for autopsy.
Police are currently working to identifythe baby, the sub-inspector said.
