Anik fell off his rooftop around 8am, while his family assumed he was hit by ongoing traffic
A teenager died falling off a rooftop of an under-construction building in the capital's Mirpur area on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Kazi Anik, 13, a ninth grader of Monipur School and College, and a native of Majhiara village of Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria.
Anik met with the accident around 8:30am after he fell off the rooftop of an under-construction building where he was currently residing in Mirpur 2, confirmed Mirpur police station Sub-Inspector (SI), MD Sarwar Jahan.
His family took a severely injured Anik first to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Agargaon, and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead around 11am.
His uncle, Kamrul Huda, said Anik lived in an apartment in Mirpur 2 with his mother, Samshu Nahar. His father, Mujibar Rahman, is a resident of Italy.
DMCH police outpost in-charge, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, said the body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Mirpur police SI, Sarwar, said Anik had been suffering from mental illness for the last two years and was on medication. When he fell off the rooftop, his family assumed that Anik was hit by ongoing traffic on the road and could not explain the cause of the accident to the doctors at Nitor.
The doctors there found that Anik fell from a rooftop and asked the family to admit him to DMCH instead, he added.
