Fire service Major AKM Shakil Nawaz has also called off the rescue mission
Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence has said an investigation committee has been formed over the devastating fire that gutted the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) market in Gulshan.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Major AKM Shakil Nawaz, director (Operation and Maintenance) of the fire service said: “A five-member committee has been formed over the fire incident at the DNCC market.”
“The committee, headed by fire service Deputy Director Shamim Ahsan Chowdhury, has been directed to submit a probe report within the next seven days,” he said.
The fire service director also said: “We had earlier informed the market authority to take measures for ensuring fire safety, as we had found this complex risky. However, the authorities filed a writ against us.”
Shakil Nawaz has also called off the rescue operation.
Sources from the fire service have confirmed that the fire broke out from the DNCC kitchen market, and further details will be made available after submission of the investigation committee report.
