Police lodges case over FR Tower fire

A case has been filed with Banani police station over the fire that broke out Banani's FR Tower Thursday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia made the statement at the inauguration of "One way traffic system in Chawk Circular and anti-drug campaign" program at Puran Dhaka's Chawkbazar area, on Saturday afternoon.

"Anyone responsible after investigation is launched in the case, will be brought to book and dealt appropriately," the commissioner warned.

Thursday's fire at Banani's FR Tower claimed 25 lives and injured 70 more, and it took six hours for a combined team of Dhaka Fire Service, Bangladesh Navy, Army and Air Force to douse the fire.

The FR Tower fire comes in the wake of another recent fire in February, which broke out from Wahed Mansion in Puran Dhaka's Chawkbazar area, killing 70 people and injuring many more.

At the program, the commissioner also requested businessmen and locals alike, to maintain proper equipments and maintain fire safety regulations, to prevent fire from spreading in the congested Puran Dhaka area.
