Update : 17 May 2019, 11:31 AM

Two youths have been injured as they were hacked while being mugged on the roof a moving train in Dhaka’s Tejgaon.

The incident occurred on Thursday night.

The injured duo—Sakib, 22, and Rakib, 23, both residents of Wari—were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

According to the injured youths, they were returning to Dhaka from their workplace—a workshop in Gazipur—and had boarded the roof of a Balaka Express train from Joydebpur, when they were mugged.

They said that when the train was on its way to Kamalapur from Tejgaon railway station, three-to-four hijackers attacked them, took their mobile phones, and stole all the cash they had with them.

Later, Sakib and Rakib were recovered by Constable Al-Amin of Railway Police—when the train reached Kamalapur railway station—who took them to hospital.

Sakib has signs of wounds around his neck, whereas Rakib has a stab wound on his back.

Confirming the matter, Dhaka Railway police station (GRP-Kamalapur) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasin Faruk said: “The injured have been sent to hospital. Besides, the hijackers took Tk500 and a mobile phone from Sakib, and Tk200 and two mobile phones from Rakib.”
