Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday sought cooperation from all in keeping up the country's socioeconomic development and maintaining the law and order.

"Ramadan is a month when prayers are granted. We want you to pray so that we can continue the socioeconomic development trend and maintain the law and order in the country," she said while addressing an iftar at Ganabhaban in Dhaka, reports UNB.

The prime minister hosted the event at her official residence in honour of judges, diplomats and high civil and military officials.

Hasina said her government was making strides so that peace and discipline prevail in the lives of people. "We want our society to remain free from terrorism, militancy, corruption and drugs.”

About Bangladesh's foreign policy - "Friendship to all, malice to none", she said: "We always maintain the policy and we have friendly relations with all."

She said Bangladesh was marching towards the socioeconomic development fast due to her administration’s various pragmatic steps. "We are going to place a huge budget next month and we want the trend of development to continue," she added.

Extending advance Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad, the prime minister regretted that she would not stay in the country during the festival, as she would be abroad making several official visits.

"I am going to Japan first, then I will visit Saudi Arabia to attend the OIC Summit, and from there, I will go to Finland," she said, adding that she would return home on June 7.

Before the iftar, a munajat was offered seeking continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and its people.

Prayers were also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyrs of the August 15, 1975 carnage, four national leaders and the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, the prime minister’s Political Adviser HT Imam, Security Affairs Adviser Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, State Minister for Public Administration Forhad Hossain, Cabinet Secretary Md Shafiul Alam, Principal Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office Md Nojibur Rahman, the chiefs of the three services and Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Vatican to Bangladesh Archbishop George Kocherry were on the dais with the prime minister during the iftar.
