Local Government, Rural Development and Co- operatives (LGRD&C) Minister Md Tazul Islam on Sunday told parliament that around 6, 46,000 people are now living in 3,394 slums in Dhaka city.
The minister was replying to a written question from ruling Awami League MP, Haji M Salim, reports UNB.

The minister said Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has 1,639 slums with 4,99,011 people, and 1,755 slums with 1,47,056 people living in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Quoting the slum census of 2014, he said there are 135,340 households under the DNCC, and 40, 591 in the DSCC.
He said the government is implementing various projects to improve the living standards and health care of poor people living in the slums.
