He was arrested after being caught in possession of bullets and a magazine at Dhaka airport
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Redwan Ahmed has been granted bail after being arrested for possession of seven rounds of bullets and a magazine at Dhaka airport.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondal granted the bail till July 15.
Police earlier held Redwan at the domestic terminal around 7:15am on Monday when he was heading off to Chittagong for a meeting.
“Airport authorities detained him at the domestic terminal for carrying seven rounds of bullets and a magazine. But he had no firearms,” Airport police station Officer-in-Charge Md Nure Azam told Dhaka Tribune.
“Redwan has been sent to the court,” he added.
The LDP secretary general was arrested just five days after the party announced the formation of a new political platform, Jatiya Mukti Mancha, to rage a movement to free BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and “restore” democracy in Bangladesh.
Kalyan Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, and Democratic National Movement have already joined the new platform to realize their 18-point demand. More opposition parties are expected to join the platform.
Their demands include arranging national election under a non-party neutral government, holding a fresh national election, and releasing Khaleda Zia from jail.
