Eric Ershad, son of ailing Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, has received abduction threats from unknown miscreants.

Following the kidnapping threat, JaPa chief's personal secretary Maj (retd) Khaled Akhter filed a general diary (GD) with Gulshan police station around 3pm on Monday.

Khaled Akhter, and JaPa chief’s Deputy Press Secretary Khandaker Deloar Jalali both confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Khaled said: "Some unknown men threatened Eric with intimidation, and abduction repeatedly over the phone in the past two days."

When asked about the phone number of the caller, he said, cannot remember the number at present.

Gulshan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Alam said: "A general diary has been lodged. We are investigating whether the threats are real or not."

Eric is Ershad’s second son with his divorced wife Bidisha. Ershad’s first wife is Rawshad Ershad, and they had another son.

Ershad has been undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from June 22. Some 12 days after he was admitted in the hospital, he has now been placed under life support.

On Monday, Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader has said Ershad’s condition is well. “He is breathing with partial oxygen support. His lungs are working. However, He is not out of danger yet.”
