The daughter-in-law of Jatiya Party (JaPa) parliamentarian Kazi Feroz Rashid has been hospitalized after being shot in her home.
Marina Shoyeb, wife of Kazi Shoyeb, was taken to LabAid Hospital on Sunday night with a bullet wound to her abdomen.
Police say Marina shot herself at her Dhanmondi residence and was taken to hospital by family members. Hospital authorities are yet to ask the patient if this was an attempted murder or suicide.
Saifur Rahman Lenin, an assistant general manager at Lab Aid Hospital, said: “We will not ask her anything for the next two or three days, until she fully recovers. We cannot ask her about it until she is out of danger.”
Immediately after Marina was admitted to the hospital, she went through surgery on Sunday night where four surgeons were present. After surgery she was put on life support, and later taken off it when her condition improved.
Citing the shooting as a suicide attempt, Dhanmondi police station Inspector (investigation) Parvez Islam said: “After talking to Marina’s two children—including her 20-year old daughter—and three servants at her residence, we learned she was suffering from mental illness and shot herself at around 9pm.”
Police also said that Shoyeb and Marina got divorced three years ago, but were staying in the same apartment with their children.
“Marina was living with her daughter in the same room,” said OC of Dhanmondi police station, Md Abdul Latif.
Dhanmondi police have seized the gun which shot Marina.
No case was filed for the incident.
OC Md Abdul Latif said: “A case will be filed after she [Marina] gets well.”
