Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the Dhaka Meeting of the Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA) at Hotel InterContinental.
The meeting began around 10am on Wednesday.
Marshall Island President Dr Hilda Heine, the current chair of Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA) and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon; and CGA co-chair Dr Kristaline Georgieva also attended the inaugural event.
Ban Ki-moon will also address a session titled: “Way forward and next step towards climate change adaptation.”
Different sessions titled ‘community dialogue’, ‘action tacks – mobilising accelerated adaptation and support’, and ‘mobilising a global audience – communication tools and events’ will take place after the inaugural session, adds UNB.
Before the inaugural session, the Prime Minister is likely to hold a meeting with the Marshall Island President and the former UN chief at the same hotel to discuss various issues related to climate change adaptation efforts.
During their stay here, the international dignitaries will also visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar to see environmental degradation due to presence of over 1.2 million of Rohingyas.
