DSCC mayor: Free medical care for dengue patients

The mobile medical team will provide free treatment and free medicines says Sayeed Khokon

Update : 13 Jul 2019, 05:40 PM

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has said that a mobile medical team will initiate a drive to provide medical care for dengue patients in every ward from Sunday.

The DSCC mayor said this while visiting a patient whose husband sent a legal notice to the city corporation, seeking Tk50 lakh in compensation as his wife was suffering from dengue fever in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area.

“The mobile medical team will provide free treatment and medicines,” Khokon said.

He also said a hotline for the dengue patients will open soon.

“If any patient is unable to go to the mobile medical team, they can call the medical representatives who will visit their place instead,” he said.

Tk50 lakh in compensation

Advocate Tanzim Al Islam sent a legal notice to the mayor and chief executive officer (CEO) of the DSCC on Thursday.

The notice said Tanzim's wife, Sadiqun Nahar, was diagnosed with dengue and admitted to a hospital on June 29.

She has partially recovered after going through treatment for five days, but still not out of danger, as the platelet count in her blood had dropped to 11,000 per cubic millimeter (cmm).

A normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microlitre of blood.

"Since the Dhaka South City Corporation has completely failed to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes, they must take full responsibility," the notice said.

In addition to paying the compensation, the DSCC must conduct an anti-mosquito drive at Khilgaon's ward no 1 within three days, it added.

The notice also warned of further legal action if the DSCC fails to comply with the demands.
