Students want their demands to be met as soon as possible

Update : 16 Jul 2019, 02:02 PM

A group of students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) staged protests to press home their four-point demand.

The students blocked the Nilkhet intersection from 10:30 to 1:30 pm on Tuesday.

The demands include-- promoting 2017-18 academic session students to their second year at college , re-evaluating the exam papers to prevent mass failing, processing an easier re-examination system, and publishing the results within three months.

One of the protesters said: "Our first year result was published on the Dhaka University website on Wednesday, seven months after the exams. We found the number of failing students was higher than the number of students who passed."

"We did not see such results before affiliation with Dhaka University. We will protest again if our demands are not fulfilled as soon as possible," said the protesting students.

The agitated students withdrew their protest and left the road after being assured by Dhaka University Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman, that the student concerns would be addressed

Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Saiful Islam said: “The students ended their protest around 1:30pm.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to help prevent any untoward incident, he added.
