Government is unlikely to comment on neighbour's internal issues, the minister says

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the Bangladesh government is closely observing the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

He made the statement while inaugurating an anti-dengue campaign at Shah Ali Mazar road in Dhaka's Mirpur area around 11:30am on Wednesday.

"India has revoked their constitution's Article 370, and this is their internal matter. We have no right to say anything about the domestic matters of other countries, but we are observing the situation," he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, added: "Bangladesh is not likely to make comments on a neighbour's internal issues."

On Monday, the Indian government revoked the special status of India-administered Kashmir, in a move that risks fuelling already heightened tensions with neighbouring Pakistan.

Later on Tuesday evening, India’s Lok Sabha passed a bill to split Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, with 367 votes in favour and 67 votes against.

No need to show off with ineffective insecticides

Quader also asked city corporations not to spray ineffective mosquito insecticides, as effective insecticides will reached the country within two or four days.

"Effective insecticides will arrive in Dhaka within two to four days.  In the meantime, there is no need to show off by spraying ineffective pesticides," he said

He urged all city residents to keep their houses, offices, schools, colleges, markets and other areas clean to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease..

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said the DNCC will import effective insecticides very soon.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Information and Research Secretary Afzal Hussain, Social Welfare and Relief Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Awami League Dhaka North President AKM Rahmatullah and Dhaka North General Secretary Sadek Khan were present at the program, among others.
