An unnatural death case has been filed
The body of a 14-year-old girl, who was a domestic help, has been recovered by police from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.
Police said that the girl died after falling from the 9th floor of a 10 storied building while reportedly trying to escape from there on Friday morning.
The deceased identified as Riya Akhtar, 14, daughter of Raju from Namapara village in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur district.
Dhanmondi police Sub-Inspector (SI) Palash Biswas confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune, saying Riya started working as a domestic help at businessman Mominul Hasan’s house from August 4.
He also said: “Primarily we suspect that the girl fell off the 9th floor balcony while trying to escape.”
“No torture or injury sign has been found on the girl's body. The housekeeper said she had been anxious to go back to her village ever since joining.”
SI Palash said: "Several scarf, cloth and ropes were tied together from the balcony, as she tried to escape at dawn, with few of her clothes, and some money.
“She fell as one of the ropes came apart."
After the incident she was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police are still investigating, and the homeowner Mominul Hasan is being questioned, the SI added.
The deceased’s family has arrived, and they have no allegation against the homeowner.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed in this regard.
