The passengers were shifted to a different aircraft after Mayurpankhi made an emergency landing

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 737-800, Mayurpankhi, has made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The aircraft landed at the airport on Thursday morning.

Biman's Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khondoker said: "Due to a technical glitch, the aircraft had to make an emergency landing, but it has landed safely."

The Singapore-bound Biman flight BG-084 took off with a total of 143 passengers on board around 8:44am.

For an hour after taking off, the pilot tried to fold the landing gears into the aircraft but failed, which prompted him to return and make an emergency landing.

The passengers were shifted to a different aircraft, Tahera added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated “Rajhangsa,” the 4th Dreamliner of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Mayurpankhi was added to Biman Bangladesh Airlines in 2015 and made headlines twice since then.

On February 24, a joint counter-terrorism team killed a passenger who allegedly tried to hijack the Dubai-bound 'Mayurpankhi' mid-air.

In January 2018, Dhaka Customs House seized Mayurpankhi and fined Biman Bangladesh Airlines TK20 lakh for smuggling gold using the aircraft.
