Quader: AL leaders involved with casinos under surveillance

Law enforcers are on alert so that people involved cannot escape the country, Quader also said

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said Awami League leaders involved in the casino businesses are under surveillance.

“After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns to Bangladesh, we will take measures against them,” he told the media at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

 “All law enforcement agencies are on alert so that those involved with the establishments cannot leave the country,” he added.

About Tourism Secretary Md Mohibul Haque’s comments on giving special permission to setup casinos in the country for foreigners, Quader, also the road, transport and bridges minister, said: “No discussions have taken place at the top level of the government or the party on whether casinos should be permitted."

Responding to queries on talks with the World Bank, Quader said: “They want to assist us with road safety.”

He furthered: "World Bank has proposed converting 160km road from Jhenaidah to Hatikumrul and 100km road from Jhenaidah to Bhomra into four lanes and the government will write back if the proposal is accepted."
