CIID Deputy Director Payel Pasha confirmed the matter on Thursday
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has recovered casino equipment from a hostel owned by a Chinese national at Uttara in Dhaka.
CIID Deputy Director Payel Pasha confirmed the matter on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a 14-member team of CIID, led by Assistant Directors Kawser Alam Patwari, and Kefayetullah Majumder, conducted a drive at the hostel located at Road 15 of Sector 14 around 3:30pm, the official said.
During the raid, two gambling machines for playing Mahjong were seized, he said.
“One Kent is the owner of the Chinese hostel along with a café - Hobnob Coffee,” he said.
Chinese nationals usually visited the café particularly for gambling.
However, the gambling machines were shifted from the café to the hostel later due to the ongoing crackdown on casinos, he added.
