The minister made the remark addressing questions from reporters after inaugurating the new main gate of the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) in Tejgaon

Incidents like the murder of Abrar Fahad might not have happened had the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) administration been more careful, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, yesterday.

The minister made the remark addressing questions from reporters after inaugurating the new main gate of the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) in Tejgaon, Dhaka, reports UNB.

“Hopefully, Buet administration will pay more attention to students in the future,” the home minister said.

In response to another question, Home Minister Kamal said almost all the perpetrators involved in Abrar’s murder had been identified and arrested.

He added that the charge sheet in the case would be filed soon and he hoped the investigation would be completed quickly.

Abrar's father Barkatullah filed a case with Chawkbazar Police station on Monday evening, accusing 19 people of killing his son. Police have arrested 17 of the accused so far, and two of them have confessed to their involvement in the crime.

The case was transferred to the Detective Branch on Tuesday.

Abrar, 21, a second-year student of the Buet electrical and electronic engineering department, was beaten to death by Chhatra League leaders in the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall on Monday, October 7.
