If the demands remain ignored, the students threatened that they would not allow this year’s admission test, scheduled for Monday, to take place

The protesting students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) have demanded immediate implementation of five of their 10-point demands.

After a meeting with Buet Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Saiful Islam on Friday evening, they decided to carry on with their protests, stressing on five of the 10 demands that they said can been met within a short period of time.

If the demands remain ignored, the students threatened that they would not allow this year’s admission test, scheduled for Monday, to take place.

The five major demands are as follows:

1. Those who are involved in the murder of Abrar Fahad must be suspended from the university, and those who are named in the case charge sheet must be expelled

2. Buet administration will have to bear the all expenses of Abrar's case and due compensation should be provided to his family

3. Buet administration has to ban all organized student politics and seal off their offices on the campus, and all those (students) who are living in different halls illegally have to be ousted

4.  A common platform should be attached to the BIIS account to expose all incidents of bullying and harassment, and a committee should be constituted to provide full monitoring and punishment to the culprits

5. All wings on all floors in each dormitory have to be brought under 24/7 CCTV monitoring.

They also asked for notices regarding the fulfilment of these demands to be issued as soon as possible.

However, Buet VC Prof Saiful Islam, after the meeting with the protesting students earlier on Friday, announced a ban on student politics on campus.

He also stated his compliance to the 10-point demand put forth by the protesting students over Abrar’s brutal murder.
