Central Women's University (CWU) has awarded four eminent personalities for their excellent work in their respective fields.

The awardees are: National Prof Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University (DU) Serajul Islam Chowdhury, author Rabeya Khatun, and academician and former advisor to the caretaker government, Rasheda K Chowdhury.

The university arranged a reception program in their honour where they were presented with the awards, on Wednesday.

The Vice Chancellor of CWU Dr Perween Hasan handed over the crests to the eminent personalities, while the students received them with flowers.

Addressing the program, Prof Anisuzzaman said: "I am grateful CWU honoured me by giving me this award. Although several universities abroad have recognized my work before, this is the first time a local university has honoured me."

The professor expressed his dissatisfaction with the current educational environment in most universities. "Instead of conducting research, these universities have become safe havens for criminals."

He said he is not against student politics, but most universities have been defiled with dirty politics.

"Through student politics, educated people can discuss different issues of the country, and express their views for its development," he said.

He hoped CWU would keep on playing an important role to keep the environment in the campus educational, and help to build a healthy society.

Serajul Islam Chowdhury wished massive success for CWU. "The university is progressing, and I hope it will keep up its pace."

He shared a special bond with CWU, the DU professor emeritus said.

The vice chancellor expressed her happiness at honouring the eminent personalities.
