A member of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) has threatened to take shelter at the university’s vice-chancellor (VC) residence from October 29.

Tanbir Hasan Shaikat made the announcement as part of his ultimatum as authorities are yet to resolve the ongoing accommodation crisis for first year students.

The Ducsu member made the announcement at a press conference on the campus on Thursday.

"I have decided to stay at the VC's residence with other students from October 29 morning as there was no apparent steps to resolve the crisis,” he told journalists.

When asked, VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said: "I hope, they will think about the matter rationally."

Proctor Prof Dr AKM Golam Rabbai said: "Steps will be taken if anyone breaks discipline of the university.

"Problems have to be solved through discussion. If Tanbir breaches discipline, his studentship may also be cancelled," he added.

On October 1, from a rally on the university campus, the Ducsu member along with first-year students gave a 15-day ultimatum to the vice-chancellor to solve the ongoing accommodation crisis in the residential dormitories.

They also threatened to take shelter at the VC's residence if he fails to find a solution to the crisis.
