MPO affiliated institutions named after war criminals will be renamed, added the minister
Education Minister Dipu Moni has warned educational institutions that the government will cancel monthly pay order (MPO) facilities if they are caught using erroneous information for enlistment.
“Besides, legal action will also be taken against those who gave erroneous information to include their institutions in the MPO scheme,” she said on Sunday.
The minister gave the warning while exchanging views with journalists on the MPO affiliation of educational institutions at the conference room of the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS) in Dhaka.
She said: "We have given conditions so that ineligible institutions could not be included in the monthly pay order scheme list. And there is no scope to run unqualified educational institutions under MPO facilities."
She further added: "A committee will be formed in November to improve the MPO Policy 2018, and then the ministry will seek fresh applications from the non-government educational institutions to be provided with MPO."
The minister said MPO affiliated institutions named after war criminals would also be renamed.
"We came to know through the media that some institutions brought under the MPO plan, were named after war criminals. The names will be changed after receiving applications from the institutions," she said.
Among others, Education Ministry’s Senior Secretary Sohorab Hossain, and Additional Secretary Jabed Ahmed, were also present at the meeting.
On October 23, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced a list of 2,730 educational institutions, bringing them under the MPO scheme.
She also directed the newly enlisted educational institutions to maintain quality of education.
