Among the 21 arrested, many have given their confessional statement
Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) chief Monirul Islam has said the charge sheet in Buet student Abrar Fahad's murder case will be filed by November 7.
He made the statement at a mock parliamentary debate organized by Debate for Democracy at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in Dhaka's Tejgaon area on Friday.
The CTTC chief said: “Police are now scrutinizing the role of those involved in the murder of Buet student Abrar and will submit CCTV footage with the charge sheet as a relevant document.”
“Those who are involved in the murder, whatever their political background may be, are actually miscreants and criminal. Therefore, they have been expelled from the related political party,” he added.
Monirul said: “No student organization orders to kill another student or any person. The perpetrators are using the political platforms to gain their personal interest."
"So, politics is not the reason for these killings. Perpetrators themselves are responsible for these acts.”
He added: “Some 10 people were arrested soon after the incident. Later, we learned that all were directly involved in the killing."
"During the investigation, several others were found involved. Till date, 21 people have been arrested, and many of them have given their confessional statement under section 164.”
When asked about obstacles in investigating, the CTTC chief said: “Police were facing difficulties to get the accurate and exact information, but they faced no other problems."
Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours and beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station.
