Anyone will be questioned if needed, police said

Anisul Hoque, editor of Kishor Alo, the youth supplement of leading national Bangla daily Prothom Alo, has been interrogated by the police over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC) student Nayeemul Abrar.

The ninth-grade student of DRMC Nayeemul Abrar was electrocuted by the live-wires of a power generator during a program organized by Kishor Alo on the school premises on Friday.

"We interrogated Anisul as to when Nayeemul died; why no one knew about his death; why the police or college authorities were not informed, or why he was not sent to a nearby hospital," Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) GG Biswas to Dhaka Tribune.

A few teachers and students were also interrogated to collect information to help reveal the true cause of death, he added.

"Anyone will be questioned if needed," he said.

A case was filed over the death of Nayeemul with Mohammadpur police station.

DRMC students protested Nayeemul's death at the school premises on Saturday, blaming Prothom Alo for mismanagement and the negligence of the organizers for Nayeemul's death, and the continuation of the program even after the student’s death.

They further criticized the organizers for taking the student to Universal Medical College Hospital instead of the nearby Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Kishor Alo management regrets the death

On a Facebook post, Kishor Alo Editor Anisul Hoque expressed deep regret over the death.

He, however, claimed that he is unaware of why Nayeemul was not taken to nearby National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

HC serves legal notice to compensate Nayeemul's family

On Sunday, the High Court served a legal notice seeking Tk10cr in compensation over Nayeemul's death.

Supreme Court lawyer Faizullah Foyez sent the notice to the editor, and publisher of the daily, the editor of Kishor Alo, and secretaries to the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Energy.

The notice asked the two editors to pay the compensation to the victim's family
