The BNP secretary general demanded to know there is no conflict of interest between the two countries

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has demanded that the government disclose details of the radar installation agreement between Bangladesh and India.

He made the demand at a rally in front of the National Press Club, organized by Shommilito Peshajibi Parishad, on Tuesday afternoon.

Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Fakhrul said: "The radar system will be installed on the Bay of Bengal. India will install it to observe activities on the sea.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on her recent visit to India, signed an agreement with India to install the radar," he said.

Fakhrul demanded a clear explanation of the details of the agreement. "We want to know there is no conflict of interest between the two countries."

The BNP secretary general added: "We have failed to secure a drop of water from Teesta River, but we gave the water of the Feni River to India."

Speaking on the rail accident in Brahmanbaria -- where 16 people were killed and 50 people were injured in the early hours of Tuesday – Fakhrul said: "These kinds of accidents are occurring frequently, but the government has no accountability."

Fakhrul claimed the government has failed to generate global support against Myanmar, on the issue of the Rohingyas.

"The government is not doing anything to raise the global voice against Myanmar," he said.

Fakhrul said Gambia has filed a lawsuit against Myanmar, but our government has failed to oppose what has been termed as ethnic cleansing against the Rohingyas.

"The government has failed to put international pressure on Myanmar," he said.

Fakhrul demanded the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and the disclosure of the report prepared by the medical board formed to look after her health condition.

"Although the medical board has prepared a report on Khaleda Zia’s current health condition, the hospital authorities are not disclosing it. Instead, they are circulating false information."
