They want strict action against the culprits

Eminent citizens of the country are outraged by the attack which badly injured Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur.

A statement in this regard was issued on Tuesday.

The statement said: “We are outraged about the brutal attack on Ducsu VP Nur. The attackers under the ‘Muktijuddho Mancha’ name carried out the heinous act. Using Liberation War as a shield and committing such offences is very insulting to freedom fighters and the Liberation War.”

“Everyone has the right to express their opinion and it is our constitutional right to do so.

The sad fact is that Nur and his associates were attacked multiple times but no justice was done. The Dhaka University law enforcement authorities did not take any action to bring the culprits to justice.

“We strongly condemn the matter, though two were arrested in connection with the attack. We want all those involved to be brought to justice,” the statement added.

Ducsu VP Nur and 27 others were injured in an attack reportedly carried out by the Chhatra League and Muktijuddho Mancha on Sunday.

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

Of the injured, APM Suhel and Tuhin Farabi were thrown off the rooftop of the Ducsu building, said Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council.

Tuhin Farabi was kept at the intensive care unit of DMCH. However he was taken off life support on Monday as his condition improved, according to Resident Medical Officer Dr Md Alauddin of the DMCH casualty block.

The accused are: Muktijuddho Mancha central committee President Aminul Islam Bulbul and General Secretary Al Mamun, its DU unit President ASM Al Sonet and General Secretary Yasir Arafat Turjo, Imran Sarker, Yead Al Riyad, Mahbub Hasan Niloy, and Touhidul Islam Mahim.
