All injured students are out of danger and will be released soon, confirms DMCH

The BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Dhaka University teachers have demanded punishment of individuals who perpetrated the recent attack at DU, leaving 28 injured including Ducsu VP Nur.

They formed a human chain at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla at Dhaka University on Tuesday afternoon to protest the attacks.

Speaking at the program, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department Prof Laila Noor Islam said: “It is inconceivable that the vice president of Ducsu was attacked. When someone attacks Dhaka University, it is tantamount to the entire country being attacked.”

She compared the incident to a terrorist attack and demanded the immediate detention of all perpetrators and putting them on trial.

Later in the day around 3pm, demonstrators under the banner tilted "Solidarity Rally of Students-Citizens," people from all walks of life demanded punishment and immediate arrest of those who carried out the attack.

During the protest, Md Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC), several members of which were injured in Sunday's attack, provided details of the incident. He demanded that justice be meted out to the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities briefed the media about the health conditions of the injured on Tuesday morning.

DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin, during a press conference, said all those who were admitted after the attack were now out of danger and would soon be discharged.

It may be mentioned that Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur and 27 others were injured in an attack reportedly carried out by members of the Chhatra League and Muktijuddha Mancha on Sunday.

They were later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

Of the injured, APM Suhel and Tuhin Farabi were thrown to the ground from the rooftop of the Ducsu building, said Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council.

Tuhin Farabi, kept in the intensive care unit of DMCH, was taken off life support on Monday as his condition had improved, said Resident Medical Officer Dr Md Alauddin of the DMCH casualty block.

Earlier in the day, police filed a case against eight Muktijuddha Mancha leaders and activists and 30 to 35 other unidentified perpetrators in connection with the attack.

Among the eight accused, two are already in police custody.
