Police apprehended a mosque imam for sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy from Mohammadpur in Dhaka.
Following a complaint filed by the victim, imam Abdullah Al Hadi, 32, was detained from the mosque on Tuesday, said Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station.
The arrested imam was sent to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Wednesday.
He is the imam of Mohammadpur Shahid Park Central Jame Mosque.
The victim, a student of the madrasa, went to the imam on Monday to seek financial help for his mother’s treatment, according to the complaint.
The imam asked the boy to meet him again on Tuesday morning. He later took the boy into his room and abused him sexually, said the OC.
OC Latif said the imam has confessed to his crime.
