The sand-laden cargo was waiting for repair work
Divers have retrieved four bodies after a sand-laden cargo vessel sank in the Burigranga River.
The deceased were identified as Babu, 18, Mostafa, 55, and Mohibullah, 60, of Pirojpur and Lutfar Rahman, 39, of Jhalakati.
Keraniganj police station Sub Inspector (SI) Kamrul Islam said: "The sand-laden cargo vessel, waiting for repair work at the dockyard, sank around 2:30am on Friday, near Afaz Dockyard, leaving four staff dead.
"Upon receiving information, divers went to the spot and retrieved the four bodies."
Two masters of the vessel, Taslim-1, swam ashore, he added.
The SI said following legal procedure the bodies will be soon handed over to the families.
The families have denied to file any case, he added.
