The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday said that private cars will not be allowed on the roads on the day of the mayoral elections, as traffic police will be busy with election duty and will be absent in most of the places.

However, journalists will be able to use their vehicles provided they carry a sticker issued by the EC.

EC senior secretary made the announcement at a meeting with journalists at the EC office on Sunday.

EC senior secretary said “We have not imposed any restrictions on the movement of motorcycles during the election day, in order to ensure  that journalists can easily collect news about the election from different places. However, journalists need to remember that the press stickers are not to be misused.”

He further said that no more than two journalists will be allowed to sit on a motorcycle bearing the EC approved sticker. Moreover, journalists must also have the ID provided by the EC.

Answering a query, he said, "Journalists can enter the voting room. But they are not allowed to enter the secret room and take pictures.”

In the meeting, EC senior secretary told journalists that he will inform the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Public Security) to create an environment where journalists will be able to do their work without facing any kind of harassment by police.

EC's Joint Secretary Farhad Hossain and Joint Secretary (Director) Israel  Hossain were present at the meeting, along with others.
