University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has decided to host year-long events to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The announcement relating to the series of programs to be observed in the course of the Mujib Year was made by the ULAB administration at a press briefing at the university’s campus A in Dhaka on Sunday.

Speaking at the briefing, National Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam said: "ULAB has been teaching Bangla and the history of Bangladesh to its students since its inception. The Father of the Nation is integral to the history of the country."

"The countdown to Mujib Borsho (Mujib Year) began on the day of his release from Pakistani imprisonment in 1972."

"Students and other stakeholders will learn a lot through ULAB's year-long arrangements with regard to the history of Bangalis and Bangladesh as well as Bangabandhu," said Dr Rafiqul Islam, who is a member of the board of trustees of the university.

He said: "It is our responsibility to teach the next generation, the young, about the history of our country as some of the historical facts and figures had been distorted after the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975."
