The bomb went off on Monday morning

Update : 03 Feb 2020, 04:25 PM

An improvised bomb went off near Madhur Canteen near the Arts Faculty of University of Dhaka (DU) on Monday morning.

Confirming the matter, DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani, said: “It could be an attempt to destabilize the campus environment and the authorities will take action against anyone found guilty.”

“Law enforcement is dealing with it and the name of an organization was found in today’s exploded improvised bomb. We are investigating the matter following this clue,” Prof Rabbani added.

He however did not disclose the name of the organization or how it is relevant to the incident.

An eyewitness told journalists: “Two law enforcement agents in plainclothes were near the blast at 10:45am and a rickshaw puller was also passing by.”

It was not possible to identify the culprits based on assumption, said New Market police outpost SI Raich Uddin to journalists.

“No one was hurt in the incident,” he added.

Previously, a live improvised bomb was recovered from the vicinity of Madhur Canteen on December 26 and on December 29, three improvised bombs exploded near the same place.

On December 30, an improvised bomb blast near Madhur Canteen, which left a canteen employee injured, was reported.
