RAB recovered two pistols, two guns, 21 cartridges, and seven bullets from the spot
A suspected robber has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka.
The incident took place in the Turag Beribadh area early Wednesday.
The deceased is Shahid Hossain alias Kana Shahid, 45.
Confirming the news to Dhaka Tribune, Senior Assistant Director of RAB's Legal and Media wing Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan said a member of the elite force was also injured in the incident.
RAB 1 Assistant Director Md Kamruzzaman said Shahid was accused in around 20 cases, filed with different police stations, on various charges such as murder, robbery, hijacking and drug trade.
He said, acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers had gathered near the Beribadh area to commit robbery in Ashulia, a RAB patrol team conducted a drive there.
As soon as the patrol team arrived, the robbers opened fire at them, forcing RAB members to fire back in self-defence.
Later, they found Shahid’s bullet-ridden body on the spot and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
RAB also recovered two pistols, two guns, 21 cartridges, and seven bullets from the spot, he concluded.
