Prof Anisuzzaman to be buried at Azimpur graveyard

National Professor Anisuzzaman will be buried at Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka.

Al-Markazul Islami, an organization who performs the final rites for those dying of Covid-19, are scheduled to arrive at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where his body is, at around 9am on Friday.

After completing all rituals concerning kafan (shroud) at the CMH, they will proceed to the graveyard, Ananda Zaman. Prof Anisuzzaman's son, told Dhaka Tribune.

All formalities concerning the graveyard has been completed. Prof Anisuzzaman will be given a guard of honour and prepared to be buried at around 10am, Ananda added.

One of the most pre-eminent educators in Bangladesh, Prof Anisuzzaman breathed his last at the CMH in Dhaka on Thursday. A test later showed that he had been infected with the novel coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

The 83-year-old was admitted to the Universal Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka on April 27 with several complications, before he was moved to the CMH on May 2.
