He also physically assaulted her
A man in Dhaka has been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for allegedly beating up his mother and threatening to kill her.
Millat Hossain, 30, was arrested with a gun and 3 bullets in his possession, on Sunday night, said Major HM Parvez Arefin, RAB 2 company commander.
The accused would regularly beat his mother, Nurunnahar Runu. According to Major Parvez, primary investigation showed Millat would demand money to buy drugs, telling his mother to rent a separate house so he could gather with his friends at their current house and take drugs.
Runu filed a case with Kalabagan police station on May 8, after being abused by Millat the previous day.
Millat visited his home occasionally and lived with his addict friends. He was on the run since the case was filed.
Major Parvez said: “He became more violent after the case was filed. He last visited his home around four or five days ago and vandalized the house. He beat his mother twice that evening and left home with a watch, some jewellery, and money.”
“We could not arrest him that day as we could not reach the place soon enough,” he added.
Afterwards, Millat called his grandmother and told her to warn his mother to leave the house and said he would kill his mother otherwise.
“We set up a checkpost at Panthapath as we came to know that he was seen with his bike in the area. He tried going the opposite way after noticing us in front of Paani Bhaban, where we set up the checkpost. Another one of our teams caught him after we informed them about the situation,” the RAB official said.
As per the case statement, Nurunnahar Runu, whose husband died a few years ago, lives in a house on Green Road in the Kalabagan area. Her daughter is a government service holder and her son Millat studied up to eighth grade.
Millat got addicted to drugs, spending most of his time with drug addicts. He was sent to rehabilitation centres several times to no avail.
Runu, after tolerating abuse for a long time, finally filed a case against her son when he hit her on the head and ear, and threatened to kill her.
RAB held Millat a few times before for petty crimes but he was released on bail bonds.
